The “Myth of Maybach” was founded by Wilhelm Maybach. He was born in Heilbronn on 9th of February 1846. Parson Gustav Werner and Gottlieb Daimler recognized the genius of the orphan boy living in the Orphanage in Reutlingen. They promoted him in good time and granted him a formation as a technical designer and constructor. Wilhelm Maybach took part in the invention of the engine-cars. He constructed the engine of the first Mercedes Simplex and advanced later on as the “King of Constructors”.
In 1909, Wilhelm Maybach founded the subsequently called Maybach-Motorenbau Ltd. in Bissingen/Enz with his son Karl, who was also a genius. There, high-power-engines for airships and planes were manufactured.
In Friedrichshafen, after World War I, Karl Maybach built up the production of absolutely top motor-cars of an utmost luxury category, which were manufactured on demand until the beginning of World War II.
Maybach-Engines are ingenious: They established new records with fast running diesel engines for railway trains like the “Flying Hamburger”. In the same way like military chain-vehicles, they drove the giants of the airship-period. After World War II the production was concentrated on heavy diesel engines for railway-trains and shipbuilding.
In 2009, the “Myth of Maybach” celebrated its 100th anniversary. But the track record will continue …
